The Bailiwick of Jersey, the Crown dependency of British is located off the coast of Normandy, France. The Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey together form the Channel Islands. The islands are located in the English Channel. Jersey is not a part of United Kingdom, as it only belongs to the Common Travel Area. The defense of the island is the responsibility of United Kingdom. Saint Helier is the capital of Jersey.
HISTORY:- Brittany governed the region before the Vikings people in the 9th century. The Duchy of Normandy, William Longsword conquered the land in 933. Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror, conquered England in 1066 and Jersey was passed to the British Crown. Nazi occupation over Jersey persisted from 1940 to 1945.
GEOGRAPHY:- Jersey is situated at 49 15 N, 2 10 W in western Europe in the English Channel. The island captures total 116 sq km area. The coastline is 70 km long bordering the English Channel and Golfe de Saint-Malo. The lowest point is Atlantic Ocean (0 m) and the highest point is an unnamed location (143 m). Jersey is formed of gently rolling plains with low, rugged hills along the northern coasts.
CLIMATE:- The climate of the Island is temperate with mild winters and cool summers.
GOVERNMENT:- Jersey enjoys the status of the British crown dependency with parliamentary democracy. Jersey is not an integral part of United Kingdom. The constitution is unwritten. The legal system is based on the UK model and the Norman customary law. The three major branches of the government are:
Executive branch comprises the Queen (chief of state), the Lieutenant Governor, Bailiff, the Chief Minister (head of government), and cabinet. The Queen is represented by the Lieutenant Governor and the ministers are elected by the Assembly of States. Both the lieutenant governor and bailiff are appointed by the Monarch. The Chief Minister is the head of the cabinet.
Legislative branch comprises the unicameral Assembly of the States of Jersey (58 seats).
Judicial branch comprises the Royal Court.
There are two declared political parties in Jersey- Centre Party and Jersey Democratic Alliance. Suffrage is universal at the age of 16.

CULTURE:- John Everett Millais, Elinor Glyn, and Wace are the famous artists of Jersey. The carnival, Battle of Flowers is the most popular festival in the island. Popular musical festivals include Rock in the Park, Avanchi presents Jazz in July, Jersey Live, the music section of the Jersey Eisteddfod. Other festivals are La Fête dé Noué (Christmas festival), La Faîs'sie d'Cidre (cidermaking festival), the Battle of Britain air display, food festivals, and Parish events. Seafood is an important feature in the cuisine of Jersey. Jersey milk is worldwide popular for its richness. Cricket is a popular sport in the island.
